Maybe I should paint my finger nails, just in case, she thought to herself while getting ready for dinner. His mom was in town and they’d made reservations to have dinner together at a scenic restaurant with majestic mountain views. It was one of their favorite places in town. Erikka rushed home from work that evening, frantic to be ready in time to leave. Hair? Check. Makeup? Done. Cute outfit? Good to go!
Then, after all she’d done, Bryson walked into the room and delivered the news: his mom wasn’t feeling well and she wasn’t coming to dinner. Yet, Bryson insisted they keep the reservation and change it from a table for three to a table for two. Erikka was suspicious. That was quite the Tuesday night date for a few recent college grads. Bryson insisted nonetheless, but Erikka was convinced something was up. She didn’t know what, but she knew.

Erikka and Bryson were seated at the table with an incredible view of the desert, and she couldn’t help but think about where they’d always talked about getting engaged: on a skyscraper with a scenic point of view. After dinner, Bryson ordered dessert. Erikka wasn’t hungry, until the crème brûlée arrived. Without thinking, she looked down, reached for the fork in front of her, moved it toward the plate, but caught herself just in time to see Bryson down on one knee and read the message inscribed on the plate in chocolate and caramel: Will you marry me?
Erikka and Bryson, we loved every minute of our time together at a place that’s so special to you, and we’re so excited for your wedding next year.
