He took a breath, put his hands on the blush-colored linen of the rectangular head table, and pushed himself back. With each step he made toward the center of the dance floor, the room grew quieter. The gazes, stronger. Fifty pairs of eyes stared directly at him, as he clutched the black microphone in his hand, looked at his bride, and began. To describe how he met the woman of his dreams. When, where, and how. To share their idiosyncrasies. What isn’t often seen, but what makes them, well, them. And to explain, in two words, why they work: sacrificial love. A patient kind. An unselfish one. A love that puts the other’s wants and needs first. Their own, second. And always has. He told a story about the long nights she’d worked alongside him on a monumental work project. For weeks at a time. Until the wee hours of morning. To make sure the job got finished beautifully, and on time. She hated every minute of what she was doing, but loved every second of being with him. She sacrificed, for love.

And to explain, in two words, why they work: sacrificial love.

As he sat down, she rose, and made the same stride toward the dance floor that he did. Like relay racers, he passed the baton to her, and she, this time, looked back to the table. At him. With a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye, she told the story of one of their first dates. How they’d gone hiking in the wilderness… and gotten lost. How they weren’t going to make it back to their car by nightfall. How she thought she’d have to knock on the tent of a stranger for a place to

sleep. How they’d only brought one bottle of water and were very, very thirsty. And how he insisted, though dehydrated, that she drink it all. She knew then, she said, with the same smile and twinkle, just accompanied by a small tear this time, that he was the one. Because sacrificial love wasn’t just a word or phrase. Before either one had ever spoken it, she could see that it was written on the tablet of his heart. She could tell it was who he is. It’s who she is, too.

Mallory and Jackson, thank you, from the bottom of our heart, for trusting us with your wedding day and helping us end this year with a wedding that reminded us (and hopefully everyone who reads this) how powerful putting others first — especially the one you love most — can really, truly be. Rachel Troyan and Danielle Goettl at Outstanding Occasions and Tamara with Petal Pusher couldn’t have designed a better winter Royal Palms wedding if we gave them ten more tries. It was perfect in every single way. Here are a few highlights from the day. We hope you love reliving the memories as much as we loved documenting them.
