Sitting at home one night, cuddling up on the couch, watching our newest Netflix obsession while trying to take our minds off work and the rush and pace of our life’s current season, an email came through that a month earlier we thought impossible: We are at this moment designing next month’s issue of Shoot & Share Magazine that will feature your Top 10 photo… TOP. TEN. PHOTO! What?! The next few five minutes included a series of embarrassing squeaks, squeals, screeches, hand-holding, happy-dancing, and wide-eyed, open-mouthed gazing. After we calmed down, collected ourselves, and apologized to our kittens for scaring them into the other room, we read the email again to make sure it was addressed to the right people to begin with — and again… and again… and again…
At the beginning of 2014, we had two separate goals: to get our work published in national print and to place in a photo contest. So, last month, we took an active step toward one of those goals, did something we’ve never done before, and entered our work in an online photography contest alongside some brilliant artists from across America and around the world. The contest began on New Year’s Day with OVER 26 THOUSAND photographs in 20 unique categories, and it ended a month days later with 14,274 individuals casting a grand total of 5.7 MILLION votes.
Two weeks ago, we found out that one of our entered images had cracked the top ten in the Stylized Wedding category. Last week, we found out that it’d broken the top five. And, last night, we were reminded that sometimes God’s plans are bigger than our goals when we found out that one of our images placed fourth in Shoot & Share Magazine’s 2014 photo contest in the same month the magazine became available in print for the very first time, reminding us that there are no two us-sized goals that can’t be knocked out at the same time with one God-sized stone…
