We. were. nervous.
Zach and Jody Gray are international wedding photographers and amazing photographer educators from Nashville, Tennessee, and two of the best people we know. They’ve helped thousands of photographers all around the world learn how to shoot and serve well — including us. They have incredible hearts and undeniable talent. Truly, we wouldn’t be where we are today without them. Investing in their workshop was one of the best things we could’ve ever done for our business, and in fact, we even joke about our journey by dividing it into two categories: Before Zach and Jody (B.Z.J.) and After Zach and Jody (A.Z.J.). Their impact on us was that significant.
So, when we visited Nashville this week and scheduled The Gray’s first family photos with their six month old son and the cutest thing you’ve ever seen, Jaxon, we almost died of a combination of nerves and pressure before the shoot even began. The students were going to be photographing the masters, like when the up-and-comers cook for the connoisseurs on Top Chef. The only thing that made us feel better is that Zach and Jody taught us, so we playfully reminded them a few thousand times that if they didn’t like their photos it was their own fault!
An hour before sunset, we headed to a beautiful spot in Franklin, Tennessee and seriously loved every second of this shoot. Watching these three interact together is like watching three separate candles blend into one better, bolder, brighter flame. There’s nothing wrong with them them on their own, but there’s something so right about them together. The way they look at each other. The way they get lost in each other. The way they love each other. And we hope these images will do what photographs are supposed to do: be a time machine that bottles up the breaths of happiness that people breathe in fleetingly forever moments, so that others can feel like they were there, and the ones who were there can go back anytime and feel the exact same joy.
Zach and Jody, thank you for teaching us how to make memories and trusting us to make them for you. We love all three of you, as one of our friends says, to the moon and back. Here’s a sneak peek of our time together…
