Courtney and David met in sixth grade church group. Sixth grade. That’s not quite as young as Cory and Topanga meeting in the sandbox, but for a non-scripted relationship, what could be cuter? He was her first crush in this world, the first boy she ever had eyes for, and the first one she ever called her “boyfriend” too. Their 12-year-old selves “dated” for a while, but things didn’t work out. Elementary school love is complicated, ya know? They went to separate middle schools, rival high schools, and lost touch over the years, but reconnected in college and rekindled the embers that early relationship. David’s baseball career meant that their relationship was going to have to be long distance one for a while, and their love for one another blossomed through phone calls, Skype sessions and the written word. Sparks flew every time these two were together, and Courtney’s been right there to support David every pitch of the way — including when he almost missed his own engagement session!
March is Spring Training season in Arizona, so while Courtney was here visiting, she scheduled their engagement session for her last day here, because it was David’s ONLY off day during her time in the desert. But, as fate would have it, at the last minute, David’s “off day” was turned into “You’re pitching today!” and he almost didn’t make it. Several strikeouts later, he sprinted. Like a cheetah. From the mound. To the showers. Into Courtney’s waiting car. And they made it to the their session with less than an hour before sunset.
Breathing hard from the rush and stress of just getting there, Courtney, in her sweet Texas accent, said, “I know that we don’t have much time, and I’m so sorry. If we can just get a few pictures, I’d be so grateful.” We reassured her and David that, despite everything that’d happened over the past few hours — the uncertainty, the anxiety, and the stress — that their only job now was to get lost in their love and get lost in each other. We’d take care of the rest. They did. And it was beautiful.
Courtney and David, you. are. stunning. We loved every second of our time with you. Our only regret? Texas is so far away…
