Outside, snow was falling, but inside, like a fire, their love was blazing. Thousands of miles away, across international borders, in the cold of the Canadian winter, Andrea and Jeff were planning to trade pine trees for palm trees and have a small, secret, summer ceremony in the desert. We corresponded with Andrea and Jeff through email alone, so we were excited to meet them in person for the first time on their wedding day at Boojum Tree Hidden Garden in Phoenix. When Jeff opened the door to the groom’s suite, we felt like we’d walked right into a men’s fashion catalogue. His mood was as cool and comfortable as his three-piece suit, and his soft, jovial eyes popped as vibrantly as his pink striped tie. Only a few steps away, Andrea was in the bridal suite, making her final preparations to say “I do.” When we entered her room, we were stunned by her beauty and kindness. She greeted us with a welcoming smile and returned to the mirror to tug on her dress, breathe deeply, and take one last look at the way Jeff would see her when she walked down the aisle into his arms, and into their future.
Jeff held back tears as Andrea glided toward him, but when she read her vows aloud, he released the emotions that were held hostage in his heart from the start. He cried. Small drops of love, one by one, invaded his cheeks, the same way moments infiltrate our hearts and memories infect our souls. He’d never loved her more than in that moment, and the proof was there for their small group of guests to soak in.
Andrea and Jeff, thank you for inviting us to document this chapter of your love story. We can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings, and we wish you nothing but happiness (and warm winters) in the future.
